Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Sadomasochism in a Late Adolescent  |  View Full Calendar

Presented by Kerry Kelly Novick & Jack Novick (Pre-registration has closed, please pay at the door)

People suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) are now rarely referred for psychoanalytic treatment. Using clinical material from the treatment of a late adolescent, the Novicks demonstrate that psychoanalysis remains the treatment of choice for these problems.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending this session, participants should be able to:

·        Apply expanded techniques to the treatment of OCD

·        Utilize the two-systems model of self-regulation to understand and enhance treatment of severe personality disorders

Jack Novick, PhD, and Kerry Kelly Novick are child, adolescent and adult psychoanalysts on the faculties of numerous psychoanalytic institutes around the country. They are both Training and Supervising Analysts of the International Psychoanalytic Association. Jack and Kerry completed their child analytic training with Anna Freud in London, England. In addition to their clinical work, they have been very active in teaching, research, professional organizations, and the community. The Novicks have written extensively since the 1960s, with over 100 articles published in major professional journals. Their four earlier books are used in many psychoanalytic, social work and residency trainings, and have been translated into several languages. Their fifth book, Freedom to Choose: Two Systems of Self-Regulation, was published by IPbooks in late 2016.
